Total hip replacement is a surgery that can replace all or a part of the hip joint which can help eliminate pain and restore joint movement.
Total hip replacement involves the damaged cartilage and bone to be removed from the hip joint and replaced with an artificial joint. The hip the largest weight bearing joint can result with a large amount of mechanical wear and tear over life. This can cause pain and therefore loss of movement and function. The body tries to increase fluid around the bony surface which can be a reason why sometimes the area is swollen and sore.
Most commonly, osteoarthritis of the hip joint – a progressive wear and tear of the cartilage of the joint, which leads to bone on bone causing pain and stiffness.
Diagnosis usually found through a clinical assessment, physical examination and referral for X-ray. When hip pain is present certain pain medications discussed with your general practitioner and physiotherapy should be your priority. Further investigation into your hip pain can occur if conservative treatment has not relieved your symptoms.
